JOHN CHARLES FLOOD
Director of Music

Percussionist JOHN CHARLES FLOOD has performed as the featured soloist with the San Diego Symphony under the direction of Jung Ho Pak in David Ward-Steinman’s Millennium Dances as well as played with traditional drummers in Ghana, West Africa.

He has a Master of Art Degree in Music Performance from the University of California, San Diego and recently retired as the Director of Percussion and African Ensemble at San Diego State University. Currently John is a freelance percussionist and works as an Artist in Residence for Visual and Performing Arts in San Diego City Schools to bring World Music to K-12 students in San Diego schools.  In 2011 John received the Multi Cultural Teacher of the Year Award by the California Music Educators Association.

John and Peter became friends in 2001 at San Diego State University.  However it was not until some years later that they began to collaborate on the Sacred Sky Sacred Earth series of works together.   John brings a lifetime of experience and concern for the planet which he inhabits and is actively engaged in doing everything that he can to call attention to issues regarding consumerism, ecology, and energy.
